Mastering the Art of Closet Organizing |

|
Many people are plagued with the condition of untidy closets. These individuals often want to organize their closets, but simply do not know how or where to start. These individuals simply envy the people that they know that seem to have it all figured out. If you are one of these people, there is no need to fret. You, too, can master the art of closet organizing. Here, you will discover many essential components to mastering this art. In order to understand the art of mastering closet organization, it is important that you understand that clutter is simply a bunch of things that you do not know how to make a decision about. In order to postpone deciding whether or not to dispose of an item, you simply throw it in a closet and tend to it later. Before mastering the art of closet organizing, it is imperative that you commit to making decisions when decisions need to be made. When training to master the art of closet organizing, it is important to go back to the days of elementary school when you were taught how to sort and classify. I am sure that you remember that little stack of cubes that were different colors. You had to sort them by color, and then when you succeeded at this, the teacher would throw in some colored triangles, little circles, and other odd shapes with weird names. You were then supposed to sort all of these items by their shape. By the time you were done, you were sorting items by shape, colors, sides, and more. When engaging in closet organizing, it is important to sort and classify all of the items that are contained within the closet. Once the items in your closet are sorted and classified, you should then take inventory of the stock that you have. If you see any items that you no longer use, or things that you do not need anymore, you should immediately discard these things. Just as in basic arithmetic, zero always equals zero. If you find that you do not use or need certain items, it is considered a “zero”. This means that it poses no significant value to you. If there is no value in an item, why keep it? This is one of the most important steps to mastering the art of closet organizing – learning to identify zeros and completely eliminate them from your life. Next, we will focus on reviewing the basic lessons we were taught about putting things away where they belong and keeping our area clean. If you can remember that Kindergarten with the big smile and stickers that rewarded you for placing your school supplies in the right cubby hole and hanging your jacket on the right hook, you know what I am talking about. If you do not remember this specific lesson, try to focus on the adult that was in your classroom that often bounced around making silly faces and singing songs while you were stuck picking up all the blocks you were playing with. When mastering the art of closet organizing, it is important to create areas where you can place in your belongings. These areas should be designated to certain things and be labeled as appropriate. For example, you need to have an area for your shoes, belts, and clothing. There are many types of closet organizers that you can purchase to make this task much easier. Mastering the art of closet organizing is not a difficult task. All it takes is a brief crash course in items that you learned as a young child. Perhaps the old saying is true…it could be possibly that we DID learn everything that we needed to know in Kindergarten! |
