3 Easy Steps to a Closet Organization System |
|
|
Do you know those hilarious scenes from movies or television shows, where they open the closet and all this stuff tumbles out? They’re pretty funny on TV, yes, but not in your bedroom or your hallway. You don’t need stuff tumbling out on top of you before you realize that you have a closet organization problem. Instead of wishing you had a bigger closet, first see if you can find space in your closet by organizing all the stuff that you’ve, well, stuffed in it. Stuffing, in fact, is bad for your clothes, books and whatever else you keep in your closets, the haphazard cramming will result in the degrading of the quality of your belongings. Categorize and compartmentalize The first step in organizing your closet is taking everything out and designating a place for everything you own. You don’t have to hang your blouses by color but ideally all fold able shirts should go together, all underwear in the same drawer and so on. It’s your closet so organizing it should be according to how you work. Some like to arrange their clothes according to how they dress up. Another system is to stack or hang clothes according to when they were last washed. This way, you won’t wear the same ratty old t-shirt again and again. If you have tons of stuff and not enough space, you should look at the many closet organizing accessories that are out there: straps that you can hang down your door and will hold several handbags, or pocket dividers for shoes. There are lots of products available that will yield enormous storage space. You just have to go and find them. Find time to put things away Clutter tends to build up over time, whether it’s months or minutes. You can’t be expected to constantly pick up after yourself, but you can figure out your own schedule to tidy up every so often. Usually, we’re in a rush to put away the things we use and if we need to put them away, we just toss them into the closet as we rush on our way out. You could still probably do that tossing-rushing combo, but make sure to fix it up when you get back home and have the proper time to put things where they belong. Know when to throw things out When clearing your closet and deciding what to keep and what to throw away, ask yourself a simple question: How often will you be using this in the next three months? And then, Will it be easy to acquire another one if ever you throw this one away? Also, don’t keep articles of clothing in the hopes that the trend may come back in style eventually. You may appear to be in style, but it will look old and tired, instead of revived, and there’s nothing stylish about smelling like moth balls or moldy wood. These are only a few steps in creating your own closet organization system, but the results are bound to impress you and your mom, when she drops by for a visit. Give her a surprise the next time she opens your closets – and not the hilarious kind you see on TV. Designing Your Walk In Closet |
